How to Update FrSky Receivers Firmware

Why would you need to update FrSky receivers firmware?  It’s easy to do that’s why.  Jk, I ran into an issue with the last batch of XSR receivers.  They were pre-flashed from the factory with version 170605 firmware.  Not sure why they did this because this version doesn’t work with the LUA script or telemetry.  You would get telemetry readings but the voltages were all off.  The LUA script either got readings or no readings but you can’t save any of the settings like PIDs or VTX channels.

Looks like FrSky knew they goofed up with this version firmware because they quickly updated it with version 170619.  This version works with the LUA script and correct readings on telemetry.  So if you are having issues with your LUA script not working (no readings or unable to save new settings) or you have wrong VBAT readings, it’s probably running firmware 170605.  Update the FrSky receivers firmware and it will fix the issue.  Here’s how you update the firmware.

How to Update Firmware on FrSky Receivers
  1. Download the firmware for your RX from FrSky
  2. Extract the zip or open the folder and drag the .frk firmware file into the FIRMWARE folder in the Taranis SD card
  3. Put the SD card back into the Taranis
  4. Connect the RX to the back of your Taranis like in the diagram above.
  5. On the Taranis, press and hold Menu, page down to page 2/9

It’s super easy to do.  Make yourself a harness and it literally takes about 2 min to update FrSky receivers firmware.

If you found this post helpful, it would be super cool if you purchased the components from my store or purchase items from my Amazon links.  These posts are expensive and take a loooong time to make so the purchases make it possible for me to keep making them.  Thanks in advance, I greatly appreciate it 🙂

The underscore version is the only one that downloads from the link provided. I bought four of these things from you guys when I first got started and had no idea how to work this out. I have flown with all the annoying messages and just turned down the volume. Now that I have a little more understanding I’m trying to update the firmware on these things. The FCC doesn’t appear in the download AND the underscore is there. What am I doing wrong. I know how to hook up the harness and how to unzip the file to the SD card but it appears to be the wrong file. Anything you can advise would be appreciated. I’d hate to have to purchase these again and toss out 120.00+. Please help thanks.
